THE WORLD OF BESPOKE

Welcome to the world of Boucher & Co where a bespoke piece is far more than furniture.  It is a piece of art that ‘works for a living’, handmade with passion and soul exclusively for you.

Our team has a unique and very specific understanding of design, along with the skills, patience, and headspace to pay attention to the intricate details.

Designs are not constrained by existing hardware or mechanisms, if a component doesn’t exist, we engineer it.  This ability to create beautiful hardware, amazing hand-carved, cast decorative detail, and personalised hand-stitched upholstery, takes your commission to another dimension.

This is more than craftsmanship; it is a deep connection to artistic storytelling. A vision realised without compromise.

HOW AN IDEA BECOMES AN HEIRLOOM

DISCOVERY

Commissions rarely arrive as finished designs. More often, they begin with a conversation, a photograph. Sometimes, fragments of an early memory, generating thoughts that lead to a quick sketch on a napkin. Or perhaps it’s a childhood memory of a dragonfly hovering over water. These are where the story begins. Our role is to listen carefully, draw out the meaning, and translate it into lines and forms that can hold their place in a room, and a family history.

To begin this journey we invite you to book a complimentary, no obligation, 20-minute call.  Whether you know exactly what you want or are looking for inspiration, together we develop a shared vision for that special piece.  Budgets are important and we work with you to create the best possible result.

If possible, you may prefer to join us for a wonderful discovery experience at our apartment gallery in Elizabeth Bay, Sydney. Here you will see some of beautiful pieces and discover rare, precious timbers, stunning vellum, shagreen, leathers and beautiful handmade hardware.

THE TIMELINE OF BESPOKE

Bespoke unfolds in stages: first concepts and sketches, then detailed drawings and prototypes, followed by the quiet rhythm of making and finishing. Sounds of a hand plane finessing the shapes of timber components. The rich smells of aromatic woods and supple leathers. On average, a commission takes six to twelve months, a simpler piece, in the three to six month range. More complex works may extend considerably further.

Time is not an obstacle. It’s an essential part of the bespoke luxury process. Each stage allows for refinement, and the patience invested ensures every curve, joint, and surface reflects the story we are entrusted to tell.

MATERIALS WE TREASURE

Every material we select has a voice and a story. Vellum, once used on medieval manuscripts, and still produced entirely by hand, brings a soft glow that mellows with time. Hand-stitched leather rewards touch and grows more supple through use. Bronze, carved and cast, holds both strength and warmth, its patina deepening year by year. Rare timbers including figured Butt Maple, Black Ebony and Macassar Ebony, Walnut and Amboyna Burl reveal unique patterns shaped over centuries of growth. These are not simply materials, they are living chapters in the story of each commission.

THE CRAFT AND THE EXTRAORDINARY HANDS

Our workshop in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia forms the heart of Boucher & Co. Here a small team of elite artisans work with patience and precision to achieve what has never been attempted before. If a mechanism does not exist, we design and make it. If a detail seems impossible, we refine until it becomes real. Every piece carries not only our signature but the fingerprints of those who shaped it, each mark a quiet testament to the craft.

04

THE KEEPSAKE

Every commission comes with a curated pictorial record of its making. Images that capture the transformation from raw material to finished heirloom. Clients often tell us that this record becomes as precious as the piece itself, for it allows them to witness and remember each stage of the journey. It is a window into the unseen hours, the patience, and the artistry invested. It is part of the legacy, a story to accompany the object for generations.
