AMELIA EARHART COCKTAIL CABINET

Inspiration comes in interesting places.

It was somewhere over the world at 38,000 feet, looking out the widow at the quiet curve of an airplane wing, that inspiration came for this beautiful piece. I thought of Earhart and those early aircraft engineers and aviators- courage, grace and pushing the limits - creating and flying machines that cut the air and rewrote what was possible. From that thought came a cantilevered cocktail cabinet: a wing-shaped base, a slender oval riser, and a two-metre arcing cabinet that seems to float.

Featuring a mesmerising starburst slip-match design made from North Queensland Butt Maple. A long black-shagreen and Ebony lid that lifts on hand-polished nickel-silver gas struts with the touch of a button. Inside, a softly lit sanctuary of Ash Burr. Fitted cradles for bottles, glasses and bar tools. A custom made, double-insulated, polished stainless ice bucket and a granite-topped servery. Etched safety glass glows from beneath creating a warm glow in the glassware after dark.

When open, the Shagreen covered lid is transformed into a softly glowing room light created by thousands of sparkling natural pearl-like structures in the Shagreen. The hand-cut and buffed gloss finish showcases the incredible grain of these rare and special materials.

This museum class masterpiece is a tribute to flight. Form pared to purpose, strength disguised as lightness - made to sit quietly in a beautiful room, telling its story in whispers and raised glasses.
