The bespoke design of this very special console intricately embodies our client’s family history into a one-off piece of functional stunning artwork.
Created from rich old-growth Honduras Rosewood and bound with handmade bronzed solid brass mouldings. Its elegant curves frame the extraordinary pieces of intricately hand-carved glass that tells the story of three generations of this family’s history of their grandfather, working in the railways, and in his spare time designing, developing and making racing bicycles, his son developing a national motor vehicle business and his grandson pioneering development in DNA and bio-science research. The carved glass doors that teel parts of these stories are mounted in a bronzed solid brass frame that incorporates handmade bearing-mounted pivot hinges.

The intensely personal design of the magnificent hand carved and cast bronze lock-plate forms the focal point of this unique piece of art. With inspiration drawn from old family photos, it depicts the patriarch working in the heavy railway engineering workshop, with his racing bicycle frames in the background
Resting on a simple black plinth, the cabinet incorporates leading edge WIFI controlled LED lighting technology to illuminate both the glass carving and the beautiful French Ash Burr interior, along with whatever special pieces it’s owners choose to display.
Ultra-clear starphire glass is utilised throughout, including the adjustable shelf and for protecting the top surface of the cabinet.
The finish is a hard-wearing multi-coat, buffed gloss lacquer that will bring the very best out of this beautiful timber grain.
To create pieces like this is not unlike commissioning a one off new design of motor vehicle. There are development processes and engineering processes to manage. Artistic challenges in creating balance and flow. And the hand carving of the glass is something few people in the world are capable of today. The detail is worked at a millimetre level of fineness which is highlighted when the glass is edge lit and all its beauty becomes vividly apparent.
