The design of this special piece was inspired by the architecture of the Water Cube, a.k.a. the National Aquatic Centre, Beijing.  Australian architects came up with the idea of covering the cube shaped building with bubbles, symbolizing water.  That unique structure remains one of the iconic buildings of our age.

The mesmerising lid of this box is made from interlocking hexagonal shaped pieces individually wrapped in black Shagreen.  Convincing Shagreen to mould into such tight shapes as these is a truly difficult process to achieve well. It has been used to extraordinary effect in this extremely rare box.

The bespoke Nickel Silver knob reflects the same hexagonal shape. A very durable clear satin lacquer protects the surface, and the interior is fitted with a fine black Italian leather. Underneath the box is a protective leather pad with hand skived and folded edges.
