Near the upper third we “slipped” the grain of the Macassar Ebony, letting a shallow band step out of line. It’s a small rebellion that creates the tension I love. A brief pause in the timber’s rhythm that draws the eye and holds it.
To honour that moment, the edges are stitched with a constellation of fine faux-ivory dots, precise, almost weightless, marking both the rise and the return of the slip. They read like breath marks in music, guiding how you look and giving a quiet frisson of delight.
Every gesture needs a stage, so each column rests on an ebonised timber base, low, quiet, and sure-footed. Shown as a pair, the pedestals become sentinels: related in character but not identical, ready to lift a sculpture, a vessel, a memory, and grant it a presence that briefly hushes the room.
